6 – Soundproofing

Because of the changes to the flat there are now two party walls. These need soundproofing.

Used in the process were:

  • 16 meters of timber
  • 3 sheets of plasterboard
  • 200 screws
  • 8 slabs of rockwool insulation
  • 22 sheets of high-density foam
  • 14 sheets of soundboard
  • 20 tins of adhesive
  • 9 tubes of sealant
First layer of high density foam over the old kitchen door.
Wall complete. Don’t need to go right to the top as the kitchen ceiling is a lot lower
First layer of soundboard – needs 24 hours for the glue to cure
Started work on the next wall while the glue is curing in the lounge. Chap on the ladder is the electrician installing the new consumer unit.
New floorboards
Filling in the wall
New consumer unit and lots of sound deadening foam
First layer of soundboard and prepping the next sheet. Each one weighs 37kg.
Consumer unit boxed in
First layer complete. The prop is holding the board in place because the wall isn’t flat.
Light switch isn’t fitted because the wall needs plastering
Second layer complete
Gaps filled with acoustic sealant
Sealant doesn’t have to be smooth as a plaster skim will cover everything.
